ACE Basin Named Squadron of Merit
ACE Basin Composite Squadron was recognized this spring as the South Carolina Wing’s 2023 Squadron of Merit. This award recognizes the top squadron in the wing and is an incredible honor for ACE Basin. The criteria for the Squadron of Merit award includes the areas of membership, growth, cadet achievements, cadet encampment attendance, and orientation flight participation. It is often challenging for smaller squadrons to meet these criteria, making this distinction all the more remarkable. The award was initially announced at the South Carolina Wing “Of the Year” Awards presentation ceremony 29 March, 2023.
Squadron Commander 1st Lt. Tim Elson was presented with the award at the Command Council at Wing Headquarters 1 April, 2023, and again at a subsequent squadron meeting. The cadets were excited to be recognized for all their hard work. “I am so proud our cadets. They are amazing and are great examples to new cadets entering the program,” said former Cadet First Sergeant Kaytie Schweitzer. “We have excellent support from our senior leadership. We are honored and hope to set a great example for other squadrons.” ACE Basin is grateful for the support and encouragement of the South Carolina Wing. “All of the fantastic squadrons in SC had a wonderful 2022,” said 1st Lt. Elson. “We're proud to be in such great company and so very honored to have been chosen for this accolade.”
ACE Basin Composite Squadron meets each Tuesday evening in Cottageville. Prospective cadets and seniors are always welcome to attend.
